Design of Two Dams in the Evros Area – GREECE

Start Date.1973 End Date.1973

The construction of two dams in eastern Thrace was the subject of the study. Also included in the scope of work were the necessary conduits (channels and tunnels) to convey the water from the dams down to the heads of the irrigation networks of the central valleys of the Evros River. The study was part of a broader assignment to investigate the irrigation needs of the Evros river zone and to determine the amount of water available in the area to meet them. Over 60000 ha of land were surveyed in the course of the study. The study team proceeded with the preliminary design of the two dams together with the tracing and dimensioning of the corresponding water conduits. Total area served 35000 ha.
