National Development Plan and Programme: Airports – GREECE

In the context of the National Development Plan of Greece – target year 2000 – a thorough investigation of existing conditions, problems, present and future needs of all airports of Greece was conducted. Proposals to achieve ultimate capacities and services included: a) creation of one new airport, b) organisation of all of them in a hierarchy – 6 international, 9 national able to receive international chartered flights as well, and 14 domestic type airports – and c) connect them with small distant villages, mountainous areas and near-by large metropolitan areas through helicopter services. Specific proposals to improve runways, apron and parking areas, and the installations of each airport were also made.
