Project Description

Planning Study for the Facilities of the Agricultural University of Athens - GREECE

The Agricultural University of Athens (AUA) is the third oldest university of Greece. It comprises seven Departments with 39 Laboratories. The University Campus, 24 hectares, is situated near the historic site of Keramikos. Facilities include eleven major buildings, the oldest dating back in the 18th cent., yielding a total covered floor area of 40,000 sq. m. Due to their piecemeal development over time, University Departments are in many cases scattered between different buildings of the campus, which affects their functionality negatively. The project objective was to optimise the use of the existing facilities, and to strengthen functionality. To this end, the following works were effected: elaboration of a complete inventory of all academic and administrative facilities, identification of university and departmental organization diagrams, development briefs, formulation of alternative proposals, and cost estimates. New buildings were kept to a minimum, respecting a will for preservation of the agricultural land within the campus, also ensuring the cost-effectiveness of the solutions proposed.
