Study of the Vertical Axis of the Xanthi-Bulgarian Borders Highway - GREECE

This project was undertaken for the Greek Ministry of Environment, Planning and Public Works. The project concerns the preparation of a reconnaissance, preliminary and final design of a 50 km highway between Xanthi and the Greek Border. The road consists of a two lane highway with a typical cross section width between 7.5 m and 10 m. 13 bridges and two tunnels with 800 m total lenghth were identified as necessary along the length of the road. A detailed environmental impact assessment was undertaken to evaluate and ameliorate the effects of road construction and operation on the environmentally sensitive regions surrounding the border crossing. The work undertaken during the course of the study included: topographic surveys and the preparation of topomaps; geological study; hydrological study; preliminary and prestudy design. It also included the environmental impact assessment study and the drainage network design.
