The first stage of the contract involved reconnaissance surveys, collection of data, the estimation of traffic volumes to assess required cross-sectional elements and pavement structure and the definition of standards to be used. After a preliminary horizontal and vertical design a detailed topographical survey was undertaken to form the basis for the next stage of the contract. Detailed topomaps were produced to be used during the design of the final vertical and horizontal alignments. The major bulk of the contract consisted of the design of 26km of expressway and 3km of access roads. 120km/h design speeds were used during the course of the project for the expressways and 50km/h for the access road design. The project also required the design of 4 interchanges and 2 bridges.
