The study was undertaken in the framework of a bid competition organized and overseen by the local government of the Prefecture of Heraklion. The road starts from the Heraklion – Moires National Road and ends at the border of the Heraklion and Rethymnon prefectures. The existing road passes through the following settlements: Gergeri, Mastrachiana, Nibrytos, Zaros, Borisi, and Kamares; the new road alignment bypasses these settlements. The road length is approximately 25 km, consisting of 11 intersections, with a unified road surface cross section. The following studies have been carried out: advanced reconnaisance study; procurement and analysis of topographical and geological data; and environmental assessment.
